Meet the Designer

The Hands Behind the Work

Some designers are drawn to fashion by glamour. Chipo Mudzengi-Hwami was drawn to it by something deeper — the memory of her mother at a sewing machine, transforming raw fabric into something alive.

That early education never left her. It became the foundation of everything Panashe Designs is today.

Award-Winning Craft

Chipo is a two-time Gold Thimble Award winner — one of fashion's most prestigious honors — recognized in both the Men's and Theme categories. It's a distinction that reflects her technical range, her fearless creative vision, and her commitment to excellence in every stitch.

After formally studying fashion design in Los Angeles, she relaunched Panashe Designs and quickly built a reputation for work that commands attention. Custom gowns that went viral. A commission for Princess Sarah Culberson of Sierra Leone for the Trumpet Awards. Pieces inspired by icons like Viola Davis that resonated far beyond the runway.

Handcrafted in Los Angeles

Every Panashe piece is made by hand in Los Angeles — small-batch, intentional, and built to last. We source materials carefully, cut and sew with precision, and design with a woman in mind who knows exactly who she is.

Our aesthetic draws from the bold energy of vintage global fashion: wide-leg silhouettes, geometric artisan prints, rich saturated color, and statement layering pieces that feel as powerful as they look. We design for women who dress with intention — not to follow a trend, but to express something true about themselves.

Sizes run from S to 5XL, because great design belongs to every body.

Fashion as a Force for Good

Panashe means "in God's presence" — and that sense of purpose runs through everything we do.

From the beginning, this brand has been about more than beautiful garments. Chipo built Panashe with a vision to support single mothers — creating space for women to work, grow, and build confidence alongside a community that believes in them. A portion of our mission is dedicated to scholarships and resources for single moms who are building something of their own.

When you wear Panashe, you're part of that story.

Now go make a statement.

 What “Panashe” Really Means

“Panashe” means “God is here” or “God is in this place.” For Chipo, that phrase isn’t just a name — it’s a promise. Every collection is rooted in faith, guided by purpose, and created with the belief that women are meant to be seen, honored, and celebrated.

Designed for the Maximalistic woman

Panashe Designs exists to empower women through fashion that tells a story. Each piece is created to help women show up boldly and unapologetically. It is to remind every wearer that she is worthy of beauty, joy, and belonging.
